Best Bets: Jan 13, 2012

It's been a while since we last posted any 'best-bets', mostly because we were busy skiing amongst other things. In order to kick-off the new year again, where should you go riding this weekend?
What's going on this weekend:
Fernie: the Polar peak lift opens this weekend. They'll be giving guided tours off the lift for those of you who don't know what it's all about - or need some guidance as to which way not to go (i.e. over the headwall) Helpful hint: definitely not a time to duck the rope, not that there's ever a good time. It sounds like they got the snow they needed to fix up the conditions over the past week with 32cm reported this week, and the temperatures have been cooler (below zero!) so conditions are reported to be much better than they were over the Holiday season. Check out Craig's Latest post for a report on the latest conditions.
Revelstoke: The freestyle world tour finished up this Wednesday, so the terrain we all know and love in North Bowl should be open again! Sweet! To top everything off, it looks like there's some serious snow in the forecast...
Where has the snow been falling:
In general, over the past week a storm system pushed through and dumped snow on both the mountains in both the SE & NE areas of Alberta / BC, this means you should consider hitting up resorts like: Castle and Fernie, or Powder King if you're feeling adventurous. Marmot has also recieved some recent snow, and a little more may be on the way. There's another storm coming through mid-weekend which may drop some more snow in Interior B.C. including Revelstoke & Whitewater. It's also supposed to get a fair bit cooler in the Eastern Rockies due to an arctic air mass. Check out our snowfall forecast maps for more details.
