Chester Lake Snowshoeing

With the avalanche danger ratings increasing to considerable as new snow falls on top of the sun-crust and Valentine's surface hoar layer, we decided to change up our winter activity choice for Monday, and head out to Chester Lake area, which is popular for snowshoeing, and has cross-country ski trails as well. 

The trail is very well used, and if you're not there shortly after a storm, the trail is generally well packed. There's a reason it's so popular, however, as it is a short trail with some spectacular views across the valley as well as through the alpine meadow toward Chester Lake as well. If you haven't been, this is definitely worth the trip on a moderately clear day - in either winter or summer. In summer, it's also worth checking the trail reports, as this area is often frequented by bears (just as Larch Valley is at certain times of year).
